This drama is a tragic tale of a girl, Shehla (Navin Waqar), who ends up taking extreme actions for the wrongdoings done by her family towards her due to society pressures and how this ends up affecting everyone around her.

Shehla is a fun and bubbly girl, full of life. She has a wonderful and respectful family, who loves her dearly. They are from the Syed caste which is known to be a very superior and honourable clan in Pakistan. Her father is the head of the community he is living in and is therefore respected by everyone. She has a cousin, Haider (Ahsan Khan), whom she has fallen in love with and he also loves her back with all his heart.

Everything was going well for the beautiful couple when one day, Haider decides to speak to Shehla’s father in order to ask for her hand in marriage, thinking he will have no objection since they are both very dear to him. The twist occurs when Shehla’s father objects to this proposal and that is when he reveals two secrets which shock Haider and to which Shehla ends up hearing and gets extremely hurt by. Due to this, Shehla is forced to marry another man, Malik Mansoor (Emmad Irfani) and that is when her life gets turned upside down forever in which she is forced to take a decision that ends up ruining everyone’s life.

The story continues with Shehla’s kids and how her past actions have impacted their lives, what consequences she has to suffer herself because of these and how Haider returns into her life.

What were those two secrets? What happened after she married Malik Mansoor? What were the actions she took? These questions will be answered once you watch the drama.

This drama is based on a novel which is probably the reason why I found this story very interesting as all the dramas which are based on novels, seem to interest me the most, such as Humsafar, Mata-e-Jaan, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Khuda Aur Mohabbat, to name a few.

The story was highly gripping and I was not bored watching a single episode. Although the topic was quite controversial for a Pakistani drama, I personally felt that the things she did were valid. You could feel Shehla’s helplessness throughout the whole drama and there came a point where I was able to empathise with her rather than just sympathise. This drama also makes you think, is it really necessary what the society thinks? Is it much more important than your own flesh and blood?

The best thing about this drama was the main cast.

I have always loved Navin Waqar ever since she made her debut in Humsafar as the evil Sara so there was no surprise that she really impressed me with her amazing acting as Shehla. She has done complete justice to her role, without a doubt. Her acting looked so realistic and no overacting was done which made the character believable.

Ahsan Khan has always been one of my favourites since forever and after his incredible performance as the vile child rapist, Imtiaz in the superhit drama Udaari, I had high expectations from him playing the role of Haider in this drama. He beat my expectations and I could not believe that this was the same guy who played such a negative character previously. This is what you call talent, where you can play two characters completely different from one another with such ease. Simply fantastic.

One person who seriously surprised me with his performance was Emmad Irfani who played the role of Malik Mansoor. Absolutely outstanding! I have seen him in a lot of dramas where I have always considered him as an average actor and always felt that he should improve on his acting skills a little bit. Therefore, I did not expect him to act as amazingly as he did as an immensely cruel, negative character. I was a bit skeptical as to how he would pull this character off as it was a very difficult one to play and something he had never done before. But boy did he prove me wrong! This has got to be his most impactful performance till date, without a doubt. Malik Mansoor will definitely be a character everyone will be reminded of whenever Emmad’s name will be mentioned from now on.

Overall, the drama is a must watch for it’s heart wrenching story and awesome performances!
